MatterPak™ Guide: How to Unlock the Full Potential of Your 3D Data

You've scanned a property with Matterport and downloaded the MatterPak™ (often referred to by our users as a "Modelpack"). Now what? This bundle of data is more than just a backup—it's the key to creating professional marketing assets.

What is inside a MatterPak?

A standard MatterPak contains several technical files:

  • .XYZ Point Cloud: A dense set of data points representing the geometry of the space.
  • .OBJ Mesh File: A 3D model of the property.
  • .JPG Reflection Maps: Ceiling and floor plan images.

Note on Accuracy: For now, we can use the E57 format together with the MatterPak. If you need very accurate DWG floor plan drawings, we recommend just ordering the E57 format and sending it to us.

5 Ways to Use Your Data

1. Create Professional Floor Plans

The most common use is converting this data into a 2D Floor Plan. Unlike sketching by hand, using the .XYZ or .OBJ data ensures accuracy to within 1%. MP2FP specializes in this conversion.

2. 3D Modeling for Architects (BIM)

Architects can import .XYZ files into Revit or ArchiCAD to create "As-Built" models, saving days of manual measuring.

3. Renovation Planning

With a 3D model, you can visualize knocking down walls or adding extensions before a single brick is laid.

4. Virtual Home Staging

Empty properties sell slower. Use the 3D data to virtually furnish the space, creating attractive visuals for listings without the cost of physical staging.

5. Insurance & Documentation

A MatterPak provides an indisputable record of a property's condition. In case of damage, you have millimeter-accurate proof of the pre-incident state.
